HEALTH BENEFITS OF RAMADAN FASTING

Ramadan is a Holy month of Fasting observed by Muslems worldwide. It is one of the Five pillars of Islam and compulsory for all adults of sound health, except those exempted due to extraordinary circumstances. During this month, Muslems abstain from food, drinks, and other physical needs from dawn until sunset. While fasting is an essential religious practice, it has several health benefits. In this blog post, we will explore some of the health benefits of Fasting.

 

1. Weight Loss: One of the most visible health benefits of Ramadan Fasting is weight loss. Since Muslems fast from dawn till dusk for 29-30 days straight, they consume fewer calories than they would on a regular day. This reduced calorie intake and increased physical activities, such as extra prayers and cooking, lead to significant weight loss. Several studies have shown that Ramadan Fasting can reduce body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage, and waist circumference.

 

2. Improved Blood Sugar Control: Ramadan Fasting has also been shown to improve blood sugar control in people with Type 2 Diabetes. Fasting helps lower insulin resistance, significantly contributing to high blood sugar levels. By reducing insulin resistance, Ramadan Fasting can help people with Type 2 Diabetes manage and improve their condition.

Several studies have shown that fasting can help reduce cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and inflammation, all risk factors for heart disease.
